Leven
The town of Leven itself, east along the Firth of Forth from Kirkcaldy, looked interesting. On the roadmap it’s drawn with a long crescent of beach along a shallow bay.
As Kirkcaldy itself is a somewhat poor and appalling seaside destination, Leven itself could only offer better promise.
And, indeed, it does offer a long crescent sandy area.
All stared down upon by a power station at the sea’s edge.
Yes, of all the places to site a power station, someone in the Scottish planning office thought a seaside destination would be a great place for one.
Which typifies again the often reckless manner in which Scotland is managed and built over, with stunning views easily and carelessly spoiled by bad planning.
The power station at Leven is no exception, and having the big chimney stack on the beach somehow never really lets you feel relaxed. It’s like Big Brother does a day trip by the seaside.
There’s nothing remarkable at Leven, and the views themselves are nothing to shout home about by Scottish standards.
So as Leven is generally quite a drive from anwhere, it’s probably better just to give it a miss and head off towards St Andrews or Tentsmuir Point instead.
